
Boubacar Diabate
Boubacar Diabate is a master drummer from Abidjan, Ivory Coast, born into a respected griot family with deep musical roots. His father was an n'goni player and his mother a singer, and from an early age he was immersed in the rhythms, songs, and storytelling traditions of West Africa. Beginning his musical journey as a child, Aboubacar developed a powerful connection to percussion that would become the foundation of his artistic life.
With more than 25 years of professional experience, Aboubacar has toured internationally, performing at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the United Nations. A key performer with the group Sound Bridges, he also collaborates with a wide range of artists and ensembles throughout New York City.
Boubacar serves as both musician and educator with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Columbia University, sharing the rich traditions of West African music with students and audiences from around the world. Known for blending traditional West African rhythms with contemporary influences, Aboubacar is deeply committed to cultural preservation, education, and artistic collaboration, and remains a vibrant presence in New York’s international music community.
